Free Crochet Pattern - Pop Tab Broomstick Lace Bracelet/Cuff

Please do not offer, sell or distribute this pattern in any way to anyone else.

I have recently fallen in love with the Broomstick Lace crochet stitch.  I wondered how it would look made with pop tabs.  In less than a half hour, I had a beautiful pop tab bracelet.

Designer Notes:

  • The only 2 stitches you need to know are slip stitch and single crochet.
  • The bracelet/cuff is made for slide on/off.
  • Whether you are using plarn, tarn or regular yarn, there is stretch which makes the slide on/off comfortable.

Materials used:
Scrap yarn
Ruler or large knitting needle
Pop/Pull Tabs - how many depends on the width and desired fit -
   Single Broomstick Lace - 1 pop tab x 5 rows =5
   Double - 3 pop tabs x 5 rows =15
   Triple - 5 pop tabs x 5 rows = 25
each Broomstick Lace stitch requires 2 pop tab holes = 4 single crochet stitches
Size F crochet hook
(optional) Needle for weaving ends

Pattern note - As you can see in the pic below, removing the clipped piece from the inside of the pop tab gives a cleaner appearance to the exposed edge of bracelet.

Step 1:  Establishing width -

Join with a slip stitch in first hole, make 2 single crochet stitches in same hole.  For 1 Broomstick Lace stitch, make 2 single crochet stitches in next hole.  Jump down to Row 2 instructions.
For wider bracelet - continue to Step 2.

Lay 2nd pop tab behind 1st pop tab as shown in pic below and 2 single crochet stitches into hole through both layers.

Continue layering 2 pop tabs for each Broomstick Lace for a wider bracelet/cuff.

Step 2:
Pull up a loop from each single crochet stitch made from the previous row by inserting hook into the single crochet stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop sliding it onto stitch holder.  In picture below, a standard ruler was used as the stitch holder.   Most instructions suggest a large knitting needle.   It's really the designer's choice.

Continue pulling up loops across to the last single crochet stitch.

Step 3: Pull all stitches off stitch holder - slide crochet hook through middle of first 4 stitches and chain 1, make 4 single crochet stitches in same 4 loop hole.   Insert hook through the middle of next 4 loops making 4 single crochet stitches.  Continue pattern for every 4 loops.   (This completes the pattern set.  Each set made will be used for desired fit.)
When end of row is reached, turn.

Step 5:  Starting next pattern set - with wrong side facing you, place the right side of pop tab to right side of piece, pull a loop through first single crochet stitch and first hole of pop tab, chain 1.  Make a single crochet stitch in same stitch and in each stitch across.

When finished, straighten up pop tabs.  Below pic shows back view.  Chain 2, turn piece with right side facing you.

Make 2 single crochet stitches in each hole across.

Repeat from Step 2 until desired fit.

To finish the bracelet/cuff - with wrong side facing you, fold piece in half matching beginning pop tab row with last single crochet row made - repeat Step 5.

As you can see, this design is very versatile.

I look forward to seeing your finished designs.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Pop Tab T-Yarn Granny Square Crochet Pouch - Part 2

Row 4, adding new pop tab row -
Making sure pop tabs are facing same direction, with right side of pop tab facing right side of piece, single crochet stitch through pop tab hole and 1st stitch of piece.  You might need to look at the back of piece to make sure the hook is going through the correct single crochet stitch of row 3. Single crochet in same pop tab hole and 2nd stitch of row 3.  Essentially, you're repeating the stitch for stitch pattern as you would normally.  Repeat this across.

To continue the pattern:

Connecting the Squares -
Row 1:  Attach red with a slip stitch through the first hole of a pop tab with right sides facing starting in one corner of square - your choice.

Follow Row 4 instructions across.  Chain 1, turn.

When row is complete, open pop tab so piece lays flat.  You might have to do some stretching for everything to look right and fall into place.

Row 2:  Now place right sides of pop tab and 2nd square together, 2 single crochet stitches in each hole across.

This pic shows the back side.
When row is complete, open piece so it lays flat.

You might have to do some stretching for everything to look right and fall into place. Follow this same process for connecting the other 2 squares.

Repeat Row 1 and 2 to connect remaining 2 squares.

Working bottom:
Row 1b:  Starting at bottom edge of connected squares, with right side of pop tab facing right side of piece, attach red with slip stitch, follow Row 4 instructions.  When row is complete, open pop tabs so piece lays flat. Change to color gray, chain 1, turn.

Row 2b:  2 single crochet stitches in each hole across, chain 1, turn.
Row 3b:  2 single crochet stitches in each stitch across.  Change to color red.
Row 4b:  With right side of pop tab facing right side of piece, follow Row 4 instructions When row is complete, open pop tabs so piece lays flat.  Fasten off, weave in ends.

Repeat Row 1b thru Row 3b for other side.  Follow the same Row 2 instructions above for connecting both sides together - with red place right sides of pop tab and other side together, 2 single crochet stitches in each hole across.

This is what the bottom looks like when finished -

T-shirt Lining:
Using the upper part of the t-shirt that is leftover, whichever color you want for the lining, lay the granny square piece flat on the t-shirt material.

Measure and cut around the pouch.  Sew the lining to the inside/wrong side of pouch with matching thread.
